Grandpa Shoe & Losing Money

Many people have wondered and asked me how exactly I got into the gambling game and stayed with it, well it isn’t exactly as exciting as many of you may think but I will tell the story anyways. First off, I have always had a keen eye for telling people who is going to win a football or basketball based on the factual information I gather along with a gut feeling.

Then came my sophomore year of college where a certain roommate of mine did not play college sports and wanted some advice on some gambling wagers and just tid bits of info and I mean sure why not its not like I was going to study anyways. I sat down and explain lines to him and the over/under totals (which I will explain to everyone at the end if you don’t understand).

After my senior year of college football is when I really got into gambling, started off with just college football and NFL games, make some quick cash and realized as some would say a skill, next I dabbled in college basketball and NBA (If I give an NBA pick take it very questionably). So to this day I do not know how much money I have gambled but I can tell you this, first year in I made $450 in football and then broke even in basketball and this year I am currently down $40 in football but with plenty more games ahead I am not nervous.

College basketball is early and I like to focus on one thing at a time but I am 7-2 in college basketball.

So for the beginners of gambling let me explain the lines and O/U.

The lines typically appear after the team that is favored to win. This means they will have a ”-“ in front of the number. The best way to explain it is that whichever team has the “-“ in front is said to be down that many points at the beginning of the game and then will still win. For example tonight Ohio plays SDSU. Ohio is (-2.5) meaning they are projected to win by 3 or more points. Why the .5 you ask? So you either win or lose the bet, there are not half points in football. The O/U is simple, both teams scored combined is either going to be higher or lower than that projected outcome, and in case you didn’t read my last blog and are reading this one take and want to make your first bet, take Ohio -2.5 and the Over of 50.5.

Like I said before, I will lose and I will win, but damnit I’m going to at least break even at the end of the year.

Cheers,

Grandpa Shoe
